Possibly Handing Over the Reins

Hello Readers!

I'm considering looking for a trustworthy person or team of people who
would enjoy taking over full control of this blog.

Wanting to spend more time (71 this month), on writing I find much more enjoyable, challenging and expressive, it's become something of a shoe that don't fit right no more.

I do still love lifting things in many different ways, as always shunning any goal and without a sense of direction. Wouldn't have it any other way!

As long as a promise is made not to involve money, adverts, selling it off for profit, you know the deal, in ANY way, I'd be more than willing to hand it over freely.

Downsizing menta-physically here in many ways. Ditching and dumping most of my books and mags in the bin, stripping down/giving away/binning my straight lifting stuff to a very simplistic setup . . . you know this process I am sure.

It'd be nice to free up my mind and allow space for a different type of type-writing and symbol-play.

It's all food for thought right now, I'll see in a few weeks, but if you or youse are interesting and interested, consider it.

Hella nice sixteen year run! Some fun, some posterior chain pains-in-the, involving both ass and neck as well . . . life's like that; an experience for me, nothing less or more, a road to nowhere selected with no gas-energy set aside for goals, hanging on to the ability to walk away from anything before it sours. No desire for backpats, thank-you's and the lot of that. Just me, no big thing or philosophical/perceptual stance.

So . . . give it a thought or two, and if it does materialize I will see to it.

Ideally, it would involve several folks, all with Admin privilege, who were capable of getting along with each other smoothly.

NO MONEY, NO ADS, NO SELLING OFF, NO PERSONAL GAIN, AND PREFERABLY A LIKE MIND OR MINDS WHO PREFER ANONYMITY

See you in the comments here.

ENJOY Your Lifting!

  1. Wow Dale, I'm stunned by this post! I cherish this blog but more importantly all our talks over the years. It was an honor to collaborate with you on my talk with Bob Simpson. It'd be a dream to take over for you or partner with you and anyone else. I don't mind sharing the responsibilities with a team of people either. Knowledge is useless unless shared by all! Sorry I haven't talked with you in a while or commented lately but I've been busy with work and training hard with the iron.

I hope you don't give this up entirely and continue to write in some capacity. You've changed my life for the better and I can't thank you enough for all the wonderful content you've provided over these past 16 years. I was a bit late in discovering your blog but I stumbled upon it towards the end of 2013 and have been hooked ever since. I can honestly say that all my progress is due largely to you because of this blog. I've made so many refinements to my training and improved my physique from reading your articles. Also, because of you I have sought out many strength training books written by our favorite lifters and have built up a nice library based on your recommendations.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    1. Hello Jeff! Great(House) to hear from you a-gain and now. I'll likely write at my own wake, all things willin', and sure do like it these last few decades. Slow going, though, trying to build certain techniques and have 'em come out-and-off easily and smoothly without too much thought getting in the way.

Perhaps more would be merrier with this blog deal. I can see so many ways it could stay alive and breathing with the efforts of readers, once they can freely add content. It doesn't take much, really, to set that up. Okay folks (hopefully ba-dee-ah, ba-dee-ah, that's all), er, "okay" admin privilege for some people, who could then okay it for others, and then they can cancel mine and I can step back and be just a reader.

Words will fascinate me no end . . . until the end.

    2. Geez, this is starting to sound like it might morph into more of a communal forum, and that'd be sweet, nice, inspiring and enlightening!

  2. Yeah this blog has become a daily ritual for me like drinking juice in the morning. Even though I don't comment on every article I read this blog nearly everyday of the week. I have been through some painful injuries, plateaus and just hard times in general but whenever that happens I come to this blog and get a kickstart on life and a renewed zest for lifting again.

It's amazing how much weight training involves the mental as well as the spiritual sides of ourselves. Whenever we lift successfully it is because the mind, body and spirit are in harmony which is not an easy state to achieve. I've found that frequently my spirit is willing but my flesh is weak. Other times my mind overpowers my body and even though I'm beyond tired about 10 minutes into my session by body comes alive and I even manage to sometimes have one of the best workouts of my life. Funny isn't it? I've always strived for that everyday strength that Goerner, John Davis, Paul Anderson and many others have talked about. Lifting a certain poundage on any lift under any conditions and times of day or night whether tired or fresh full of energy.

    1. See . . . no worries. A slightly longer reply could be a post, once admin priv is there. It would also be an opportunity for lifters to attempt to get along with one another, if it happens that many choose to sign up. Also, an opportunity for grammar nazis and punctuation pedants to lighten up. There's sooooo much stuff from the past as well, things that have not been placed on the internet yet, material that many would enjoy and appreciate were it given freely. This may even take a chunk out of the "for pay" lot selling their precious wares like hen's teeth, all the while babbling about their "love" for the iron game. That always sickens me no end. The regurgitating of previous material and the faux-friend stance. No money? No problem. We should ALL have access to what came before us, in my view. Internet. Share. Tiny apple cart upset. Beautiful!

  3. Thank you.

Your blog is a testament that giving without any expectation of return benefits many; in your case, the whole wide wonderful world.

Your curation of content re-introduced real physical culture to many and resurrected sensible voices from the past who had been overlooked and minimized by commercial interests.

My most vivid memory was the semi-relaxed back pose of Ronald Walker:

    https://ditillo2.blogspot.com/2010/02/ronald-walker-1909-1948-author-unknown.html

    Astonishing!

The other highlight was the inspirational Sig Klein. His training career remains a model for sensible physical culture.

Whilst ever your blog is accessible on the internet, your decades of giving will continue to benefit any who are sensible to read, think, adapt, if necessary and ultimately, do the work.

    Thank you.

    1. Thank YOU, John, for enjoying it and gaining something from it. That was my goal.

  4. No shame in stepping away; you've put together what is likely the best resource of its kind on the internet. Checking for new articles has been a part of my routine for years, and I still get that little dopamine hit whenever anything new is posted. I've sent over a few.articles in the past - I'd love the chance to try and help to keep this thing going. Thank you for all you've contributed here, Dale!

    2. Let us now if you ever want some transcript contributions. I don't know enough on lifting history to write any original articles but Ive read a good few scans of old BB magazines that I'd love to transcribe and post up on a blog like this one.

    3. Wunnerful! That's exactly what is being set up right now. People will have "author" privileges so that they can do that . . . what you just mentioned in your comment. And if someone has typer troubles, maybe a guy's a two finger typer and it takes all day and night to do it, I think scanned submissions could find their way to being done and put on here. It's very promising, I'm positive here about it. Ooops . . . I'm going out of my more "cynical" online character here again. Good to meet You!

    1. We shall see, who knows what'll happen next, and after that, who knows. Maybe it'll sleep the good sleep. Jan would be wonderful as one of the people behind it . . . hey, he already is and has been for a long time with his input of article writing and letters to me on various topics and in so many ways. It'd be a treat alright! Some readers and contributors don't have high-tech computer skills, some do, and I know I sure as hell don't, but perhaps with several people doing different things that could all be remedied . . . and open up more avenues to creating interesting stuff, er, "content" as it's called now.

  7. Two men have pretty been much selected for control-privilege with this little blog thing. They can open up privileges for all they choose to, and hopefully they will. I plan to keep my access here, and still will post and play games with the blog. Hell, I still have a good 5 or 600 mags that haven't been done over with the eagle eye for stuff. Not bad! I only binned a thousand or so, so there's much more left in the way of what I can contribute.

    1. Glad to hear - I get the impression there are quite a few of us who want to help keep this thing going. I'll try and come up with some options where we can all collectively "gather" and figure out how to chip in without it becoming more work for you, or the trusty couple of Admins. Thinking maybe a shared email account where folks can send in stuff and as a group it can be collectively handled, rather than sitting in one person's inbox. I look forward to helping however I can!

    2. Beautiful! I'll still keep the same privilege you guys will have, and will continue to use what's remaining of my silly book/mag collection to add things over time too. Great idea, Grey, this shared email account! It'll be exciting in a small way to see the changes happening. I have faith in humanity, hope for us still. My pose as a negative and cynical sort is really a writing character one. My real life does not reflect that view, as if that needs saying.

    3. Here's a link to some of the process . . . I hate this kind of crap. Have a look and see how you think it can be done, how many ways there are to, hopefully achieve the desired result. Tech types will understand all of this much better than me. https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/42673?hl=en#:~:text=To%20make%20someone%20an%20admin,the%20blog's%20settings%20or%20template.

  8. I'll need email contact, real name only please, from Grey Cat and John. Shoot me a letter at dalecredico@yahoo.com if you still want to do it. The process of opening up to many others guys won't be too hard . . . hopefully . . . but a small warning here . . . Google blogger is free, strictly a data-collection form of software . . . one that uses robots for almost everything. Expect frustration. Also, the comments section takes some cleanup time. People use bots to dump their worthless "fitness and lifting" products everywhere and this blog is no exception. Anyone else with material they believe is fitting, send me an email, real name only please. Tear down that wall, Mr. Giveitaname Nobody!

  9. Hey Dale,
It’s Joe, I’ve taken over the reigns of The Ironmaster from Osmo Kiiha. If it’s still available let’s talk about your transition if you would like. Your brother in Iron.

    1. Is this Joe di Agastino? Hopefully spelled correctly! My main fear and worry is the money-making thing. None of that can go on in any way. A billionaire and a penniless newbie at a library computer must have free access to the material. No inner circle, no entry fee, no subscription . . . none of that will fly with this blog. Sorry if I come off aggressively with this, but it's got to stay that way.

    2. Joe di . . . after a little digging around online and some replies from some folks . . . No. JUST NO. Move on to your next project kindly. You are not what is needed here. Enjoy Your Lifting!

  10. Honestly, I'm very surprised for-sale types haven't hacked and wrecked the thing still. But that's really a rather negative view of lifters and those who pay their bills with lifting-related stuff. I considered limiting entry and just piling on pirated stuff or pirating it myself to get it out there and accessible, but that won't happen ever. I sometimes wish I could get a reply from the folks I tried to contact about use of their creations and doings . . . some do, some don't. Most won't, and core readers already realize who those folks are. Usually a link to the for-sale item allows for excerpts. The majority, and this could be useful to the new guys taking more control, the majority of lifting authors from the past who are still above ground enjoy the wider spread of their stuff. All in all, I've found, not youtube douchbags and that lot, are a great bunch! In the words of the late Jimmy Teamster Hoffa . . . Solidarity . . . SOLIDARITY!

  11. Been a daily reader for...I guess all of it.Found out first on the Power and Bulk forum,I guess. Some articles I must have read dozens of times. Vern Weaver and York barbell stuff, too good.

Can you tell us a bit more about what this would entail? I assume you have a bunch of sources that provide you with magazines and articles, which you then copy(save for some slight editing, much obliged). Is there even more stuff out there?(what I gather from alll the watered-down stuff on other sites, they usually use THIS as their source)
What does running the site mean, practically? Like, what does a typical week look like?

    1. No worries, Bert. Two good men are handling the transition already. Hey, I just type it out, I don't read the crap! Basically, a week with this involves drinking, a little typing, a break to go to work so's I can pay the damn bills, more drinking, a little lifting, some more typing if I feel like it . . .

    2. A Bert without an Ernie, a bar without plates. Oh, the heartbreak, Baby . . . Power & Bulk was fuckin' GREAT!

    3. Yeah, I sometimes dig around looking for where some of this stuff winds up online. Real serious types sometimes copy and paste shite from here over to big-time sites stemming from that dusty-bin fucking Todd dump in Austin. There's likely only two or three people that'll get this joke . . . I wonder if there's any shit smeared on the walls at that place?

    4. My favorite use of what's here for his own site? My number One is Jamie Lewis. Survey says . . . CORRECT! Great guy, even lays it out and states that it came from here, like I give a shit about that anyhow. Take it and make use of it, why not? I did and do the same thing with the mags and books, sometimes mildly altered it, but never NEVER professed to "own" or "create" any of it simply by regurgitating it for cash like that Dino Bird guy. Good Lord, the noive-a some avians, eh? Hey, let's print some out and toss it on a long-gone Iron author's grave for sales purposes! Tacky, no class, really, quite slimy in my eyes, but I don't give two shites what anyone does with their spare time to impress their fanboys and canine pets to make a few bucks. More power to 'em! It's not copyright issues that stop or will stop me from putting up some of the "Old School" regurgitations from modern "authors" . . . it's just the simple fact that I prefer the originals much more. Don't you? So why in hell do you get suckered by that not-new in any way crap? What do you want? Hise or McCallum? Both? You got it! Some douche-of-a roided up has-been faux-scientific type needing still more cash in front of a cheesy youtube backdrop holding a pointer and "explaining" how to "really" implement the 20-rep heavy or pee-wee squat in the most productive way? Hang on, I just pissed myself laughing.

    7. Ahhh, glad to hear you found some good men willing to take over. Happy for you. Some respite after this Sisyphean task. At the time I was probably one of the youngest on that forum (if not the youngest). Still a youngster, but gradually edging into that "oldest in a lifting crowd" state. Happy lifting in my garage now for a long time. The originals are hands down my favourite. Sure, there was BS there too, but the sheeit I can sure dig the romance way more. Also it's less loud, methinks.
You'd be surprised at how often they translate some of this stuff to Dutch or French and regurgitate it elsewhere.
It's like good music though: when you're really into it and look for it, you always end up more or less with the same stuff.
Many thanks for all the stuff over the years. Don't mean for this to sound like a eulogy, but if I could, I'd shake your hand. (+ a drink)
