I'm 70 and if I could go back I'd never do under 8 reps on anything. I've never been severely injured while working out but have accumulated lots of aches some loss of mobility due to (I believe) too much powerlift training. I started following this dude Nash Jocic on youtube who endorses Serge Nubret types of workouts, featuring more sets and reps with lighter weights with shorter rest periods. Every bodypart once per week but not the classic Bro Split. Gironda pushed this as well.
I realize that this stuff has been around forever but the closest I've been to it was 20 rep squats and high sets (15ish) of 5 in the bench press. Been on this for close to a month and it is indeed balm for the old bod. Wouldn't want to admit to how light the weights are but the joints feel good and the pump is extraordinary.
GiveItaName here, 72, and at this point I don't give a crap how heavy the weights I use are much at all. Heavy enough to get a workout, but light enough not to eff me up by dreaming I'm sixteen. Hey, I was lucky, used mainly low reps, 5 and lower, and never really busted any part of my body much at all or for long. There's much more enjoyable "hobbies" when it comes to damaging your body!
